In the After - Demitria Lunetta Everyone knows that I am into books that are creepy, and this one sounded like it would be. It was to an extent, but not quite what I was expecting. I still really enjoyed it though. I listened to the audio of it in combination with reading the book. I think I enjoyed then equally. I really enjoyed the characters and I thought that the plot moved along really well. I did get a little confused for a while by the way it's told once she gets to New Hope, but I did get used to it, and found that it was actually quite chilling and unsettling.Amy has been surviving "The After" as she calls it. She is fortunate that her house is pretty much safe, and she knows how to fend for herself. She also has Baby, who she found. She loves her like family and makes sure that no harm comes to her. When the go to New Hope, things get a bit more complicated. She doesn't get to spend as much time with Baby, there are really crazy rules, and there is definitely something more going on. She just needs to figure out what it is. She is putting herself in danger trying to get to the bottom of things though. She is a very tough girl, and I loved her persistence. She could have easily been broken, but she kept fighting. There is kind of a hint at romance, but it's really not focused on. I loved how it was done, and I think it really enhanced the story. I never really knew whether to trust him or not though, and it made it hard for me to want there to be a romance. I totally understood it though. He seemed to really and truly care about Amy, even if he was hiding some things. The audio was really great. I liked the reader. Sometimes with a female narrator, they tend to sound too old for the character, but I thought that she did it well. I was a little put off by when she was supposed to be talking in a male voice, but most of the time it seems that it sounds weird when it's a female. There are very few female narrators that do a good male voice. So beyond that, I liked the emotion she was able to put behind the characters and I thought she was a good voice for Amy. Overall it was a great audio to listen to,This book had plenty of chilling moments, secrets, a great family feel between characters, and some pretty good action scenes. It wasn't quite the creepy read that I thought it would be, and I figured out the twist a little early, but it was fantastic and I think that a lot of people will really enjoy this one. I am looking forward to see where the story will go!! A great first book to what I'm sure will be a thrilling series.* An advanced copy of this book was provided by the publisher in exchange for an honest review. I did not receive any compensation.
